Customers in the USA can make a payment to an IBAN (International Bank Account Number) using several methods. Since IBANs are mainly used in Europe and other regions outside the U.S., the process typically involves an international wire transfer. Here’s how they can do it:

1. Wire Transfer via a Bank

Most major U.S. banks allow international wire transfers to IBAN accounts. The customer will need to:

  • Log in to their online banking or visit a bank branch.
  • Select International Wire Transfer.
  • Enter the recipient's IBAN and bank’s SWIFT/BIC code.
  • Provide the recipient's name and address.
  • Specify the amount and currency (e.g., EUR, GBP, etc.).
  • Pay any applicable wire transfer fees.
  • Confirm and submit the transfer.

💡 Processing Time: 1-5 business days, depending on the bank.

2. Using Wise (formerly TransferWise)

Wise offers low-cost international transfers directly to IBAN accounts.

  • Sign up on wise.com.
  • Enter the recipient’s IBAN and bank details.
  • Fund the transfer via bank debit (ACH), wire transfer, or debit/credit card.
  • Wise will process the transfer, often at better exchange rates than banks.

💡 Processing Time: Often within 24 hours.

3. PayPal/Xoom

If the recipient's bank is supported, PayPal/Xoom can be used to send money to IBAN accounts.

  • Log in to PayPal or Xoom.
  • Choose "Send Money to a Bank Account".
  • Enter the IBAN and recipient’s details.
  • Fund the transfer via PayPal balance, bank, or card.

💡 Processing Time: 1-3 business days.

4. Revolut, Remitly, OFX, or Western Union

These services also allow U.S. customers to send money to IBAN accounts, often at competitive rates.

💡 Best Option? If speed and low fees are a priority, Wise or Revolut is often the best choice. For large transactions, a bank wire transfer may be better.
